Discography

With a name as evocative as Asia, you would expect the group to be prog kings and queens but they're actually a fairly simple rock band. The group was formed as a four-piece and released two albums that were self-titled in 1979 and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. The band has a varied musical background but their biggest success was in 1982 with Toto IV.

The album was a massive blockbuster, but it was not without its issues. Toto was able to achieve this feat with the help of the smash hit "Africa."

Toto's musical mastery is the result of their previous experiences. Before joining the group, the members worked as session musicians for artists such as Boz Scaggs. Steely Dan and Seals and Crofts. The album opens up hard with songs like Running Out of Time or Unknown Soldier that show the band's ability to write fantastic AOR tunes that slowly get into your head. The album also features slow, jazzier tracks like The Little Things and Chinatown. The album ends with Great Expectations. This song mixes folk and distortion AOR, which should sound completely wrong but actually works extremely well.

After Toto IV The band's fortunes changed towards the negative. David Hungate left the band to pursue a solo career and the band had several drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball left the band after drug charges. The band continued to play with Michael Porcaro, Steve Lukather and Michael Porcaro.

Despite the chaos, Toto forged ahead and released Isolation, which was not as successful as IV. David Paich's keyboard work was as well more refined, more precise and 안전놀이터 추천 less akin to previous recordings.

After touring to promote the album, the group recorded a live performance in Amsterdam that was released as a set of two CDs entitled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. A new studio album followed a few months later, and the band embarked on an extensive world tour to promote it. During this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.

In 1998, Paich & Lukather began exploring old tapes and demos to find songs that hadn't been recorded before. The album was released in 2001 as a duo album titled Then & Now. It was the band's first album without the single track "A". The album also contained an previously unreleased track called "Kari-Anne".

By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity.
