How to Replace an Audi tt key fob not working G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located near the edges of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a message to the ECU through a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to control fuel and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain of timing. However, the error code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test because there are various pins on the connector, and each one has different functions. The most effective method to test it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is operational, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. If you're having issues with this sensor, look for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll i had a big cut in power like the engine is running out of gas or injectors are not firing at all. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were drenched in gasoline and the 4th was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when i start the engine without sparks, the three with gazoline jump out. The 4th one stays closed. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car is able to start when the G28 is not plugged in and it runs perfectly when it is connected, but still has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when unplugged, still shows temperatures of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not sure what to do. I think I've ruled everything else out. I'm afraid i may have missed something. Please let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 and both function in the 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a salvage yard or at a parts store. It is simple to test them to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's end). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines have an ECU that must be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about timing of the fuel injector, for example. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you encounter a problem with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could cause the engine shutting down.

A damaged G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox or a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, or a misfire in gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and Audi keys replacement requires to be replaced if you experience any of these symptoms. The good thing is that they are quite affordable and easily accessible, especially if you're looking at a Bosch unit like ours. Alternately, GM's version this component is an option.

5. Tachometer

A damaged engine sensor could cause a number of problems in your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission of your audi a3 key, as it transmits information to the ECU about how fast or slow the engine of the car is turning. If the sensor fails, it could cause problems for the transmission as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49, via an uncolored wire. The ECU uses this signal to control the amount of fuel and boost, and also timig. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity of the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should see the resistance to be around 1000 ohms in these areas. This is a common feature across the replacement audi key cost uk 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 Du, so you might find some good ones in wrecking yards.Peugeot-2021-New-Black.png
