Study of Chinese Learners' Pedagogical Choices in Korean

Participants were 46 CLKs with intermediate or higher ability who responded to MQs and DCTs. They were also asked to provide reflections on their evaluations and refusals in RIs. The RIs were transcribed and recorded by two coders independent of each other who then coded them. The coders worked in an iterative manner and involved the coders reading and discussing each transcript. The results of the coding process were compared to the original RI transcripts, which gave an indication of how the RIs captured the underlying pragmatic behavior.

Interviews with Refusal

The most important question in pragmatic research is: why do some learners refuse to accept native-speaker norms? They were asked to perform the DCTs in their native language and complete the MQs either in their L1 or L2. This will allow them to better comprehend how different environments may impact the pragmatic behavior of L2 students in the classroom and beyond.
