Its mapping system for bagless smart vacuums is superior to other systems because it can store multiple maps and support many functions, including a customized and scheduled cleaning. It doesn't let you to create Keep-Out Zones or clean specific rooms at a specific time, which may be important for spaces that span more than one floor. If you want to use this feature, you might want to consider the Roborock Q5+ instead, which is a superior smart mapping system and offers a lot more options for customization in its easy-to-use app.

2. Shark Matrix

Shark is one of the half of the home appliance conglomerate SharkNinja, is a relative newcomer to the robotic vacuum market. The company has gained popularity quickly by offering a large selection of robots at a reasonable price that are designed to the highest standards. Their flagship model is the Matrix is a powerful whole home cleaner with incredible suction power and smart features.

The Shark Matrix comes with a self-emptying station that automatically empty the bag after each clean, saving you from the hassle of changing it manually. Like all Shark robots, the Matrix can be programmed to run on a timer or remotely activated using voice commands to provide hands-free convenience. It also uses cliff sensors to avoid falling off the steps and optical encoders to measure the distance it has cleaned.

While it may lack the sophisticated vSLAM mapping of the Roomba S9, the Matrix is still an excellent option for anyone searching for a mid-priced robotic vacuum. Its cleaning path is efficient, even on carpeted floors, and it offers decent dirt removal on all surfaces. It also comes with a more powerful cleaning head than the S9 and a self-cleaning brushroll that is ideal for hair from pets.

Shark's app is incredibly slow and unreliable when used in conjunction with the robot. The iRobot HOME application, on the contrary is definitely more user-friendly and stable.

3. iRobot Roomba i3

With its high-quality construction and impressive performance on unfinished floors, the Roomba i3 is one of our favorite robot vacuum bags. It feels solidly built, is able to maneuver itself effortlessly around obstacles, and recharges quickly. It also has a large dustbin that can be easily emptied.

This Roomba model doesn't have a top-mounted camera that can recognize objects or look for features that are unique to be aware of as some of its more premium counterparts do. Instead, it employs downward-facing optical sensors to detect obstacles when they arise, builds up an image of your floor plan when it goes through cleaning cycles, and pays close attention to internal sensors like wheel odometers and gyroscopes. The iRobot Genius update, which includes smart mapping to the robot, without increasing its cost it allows you to control it using the iRobot app or your voice assistant to clean certain areas.

If this Roomba is soiled--and it is triggered to do so by the app or by its own docking station--it returns to its home base and empties its internal dustbin into the larger external one. Roomba iRobot i5 from iRobot

This robot vacuum is among the top in regards to self-emptying. It has a dirt tank that automatically emptys after filling into the robot's base. It uses patented Dirt Detect Technology to help it identify and clean the dirtiest areas of the room. The dual multi-surface rubber brush flexes to adapt to your floor's surface to loosen and remove stubborn dirt. This is coupled with a powerful suction that collects and holds dust and dirt, and a mopping solution tank that releases liquid to thoroughly clean your floor.

It's an excellent choice for floors with no carpet and can be used in a small amount of low-pile carpet. It doesn't clean pet hair as effectively as other models, and can struggle to handle bulky items like cereal when the dirt container is filled up. It also has a limited degree of maneuverability, and it can get caught up in things like rug tassels or electrical cords. Its battery life is decent and it charges fairly quickly, though.

The iRobot Combo i5 goes to the next step by adding mopping capabilities. Simply plug in the Roomba Combo cleaning bin and the robot immediately transforms into a multi-surface bagless sleek vacuum/mop robot. It can navigate rooms in neat rows and is guided by the iRobot app, or via voice commands when paired with an intelligent assistant device.

It's more effective in cleaning low-pile and unfinished floors than the iRobot Roomba E5 because it includes a HEPA filter that traps allergens. However it's not as sophisticated as the Shark AI Robot and has more components that must be cleaned regularly. It is more durable and has longer battery life, but it also costs more to operate.

5. IRobot Roomba i7 Roomba

The Roomba i7 has one very unique feature that we don't see in other robot vacuums: an automatic dirt disposal system that is integrated into its base. When docked, a pipe on the Clean Base automatically suctions debris from the robot's bin into a special bag named Smart Maps by iRobot. It's a quick, easy method to empty the bin that robot vacuums. You don't have to lift the bin out and let everything go around (which could cause a minor dustsplosion). This top-rated model comes with a minimal operating cost. You'll have to purchase another bag every time your old one gets full and, while they're relatively inexpensive, you can feel bad about throwing them to waste.

After you have your i7+ and its Clean Base installed you can begin cleaning immediately or ask it to perform some exploratory, non-vacuuming runs first in order to create a floor map of the area. Once you have a map of your space you can use the iRobot app to label rooms and create virtual barriers. You can also set specific cleaning times for certain rooms.

The i7+ is a top-of-the-line robot vacuum, and although it's very capable and offers all the features you could need in the home automation space, it comes at the price of a product that's difficult to justify for the majority of. The Roborock S7 is less expensive than the i7+, and feels better built, has lower recurring costs and a longer runtime. It also does a better cleaning job on flooring that isn't fully cleaned. If you're not completely convinced that you need a permanent map of your entire home, we suggest you look at other options.
